Take Action

Protect Chuckwalla from exploitation and development!

Chuckwalla is home to Indigenous heritage sites, and it provides critical habitat for threatened and endangered species, including the desert tortoise.

That’s why we are working hand-in-hand with regional partners to propose the permanent preservation of Chuckwalla using President Biden’s authority under the Antiquities Act of 1906.

Now is the time to act. With President Biden’s pledge to conserve 30 percent of America’s lands and waters by 2030, he can help meet this promise by conserving Chuckwalla as a national monument.

By taking action, you will receive important updates about our work and how you can help Trust for Public Land protect public land and parks for people.

RE: Designate Chuckwalla as a national monument

To President Biden,

As an avid supporter of the outdoors, I urge you to designate Chuckwalla as a national monument. Presidents from both sides of the aisle have used the Antiquities Act to protect hundreds of millions of acres of America's most significant cultural and recreational landscapes. Many of the public lands that we know and love today - such as Grand Canyon and Arches National Parks - were first protected as national monuments. Without the foresight of past presidents, these places might not be the beautiful, conserved landscapes they are today.

Designating Chuckwalla as a national monument will protect nearly 700,000 acres of land, including several important cultural and historic sites. It will also safeguard vital habitat for threatened and endangered species such as the desert tortoise.

As you work to protect 30 percent of America's lands and waters by 2030, I urge you to include Chuckwalla as a part of that promise. We look to you, as our president, to protect our country's most special places - and this precious landscape is no exception.

Sincerely,
