Urge the General Assembly: Protect More Georgia Land
The Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Act (GOSA) is the most successful conservation funding program in our state’s history—preserving tens of thousands of acres here. But Georgia is in desperate need of more GOSA funding. Since 1985, more than 1.5 million acres of land have been developed in Georgia. The state’s population has been growing by an average of 100,000 each year—increasing demand for outdoor recreation while decreasing the amount of undeveloped land.
Funding is falling well short of demand. While 74 conservation projects have received grants, 204 were denied. More than $320 million in additional funding is required to preserve the land and build the parks Georgia needs.
Because of this, Representative Jesse Petrea introduced legislation that will increase funding for GOSA. Urge your elected officials to support this legislation for the future of Georgia’s public lands.
