Congress is about to leave for the year, but our public lands can’t wait.

Months of budget turmoil and a 44-day federal shutdown have left parks without the staff or resources they need. Across the country, these treasured places are being pushed to a breaking point. 

Since January, the National Park Service has lost a quarter of its workforce, with more cuts expected. That means closed visitor centers, stalled maintenance, and fewer rangers to keep trails safe and open.

Urge lawmakers to protect and invest in our parks and public lands.

I'm writing because I'm deeply concerned about the challenges our parks and public lands are facing. After the prolonged federal shutdown and significant staffing cuts, it's clear that many of our national and local parks are really struggling. 

Agencies like the National Park Service have lost a quarter of their workforce and had to scale back services. Visitor centers are closing, trails are going without maintenance, and nearby communities are feeling the effects.  

Local parks are also facing funding delays and disruptions, and the uncertainty makes it even harder for communities in our state to plan and complete work that people are counting on. 

These places matter to me and many people I know. Public lands support our local economy, protect wildlife, provide families with places to spend time outdoors, and offer all of us a chance to connect with nature. They're a big part of what makes our state such a great place to live. 

I'm asking you to make substantial investments in our public land agencies and back policies that sustain the staffing we need to keep these spaces open, well maintained, and accessible to everyone. I strongly urge you to support passing the fiscal year 2026 Interior-Environment spending bill to fund our public land agencies.  Thank you for your attention to this issue and for your service to our community.
