Take Action

Thank President Biden for Honoring Black Wall Street

The Greenwood District, known as Black Wall Street, was once a thriving center of Black excellence and entrepreneurship. Its devastation in 1921 by a violent white mob is a tragic event in our nation's history.

However, by designating Black Wall Street as a national monument, President Biden has ensured that this critical story of resilience, loss, and recovery will be preserved and remembered for generations.

By taking action, you will receive important updates about our work and how you can help Trust for Public Land protect public land and parks for people.

RE: Thank You for Honoring Black Wall Street

To

Thank you for designating Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a national monument. This designation is a powerful recognition of Black excellence, resilience, and entrepreneurialism, and also serves as a solemn reminder of the deep-seated racism that fueled the destruction of Greenwood and continues to plague our society today.

Our national monuments and public lands benefit all Americans, including future generations. I encourage you to continue protecting our country's historic and natural treasures, such as Chuckwalla outside of Joshua Tree National Park and the Great Bend of the Gila in southwestern Arizona, which also deserve protection. Please act swiftly to preserve these critical landscapes as national monuments.

Sincerely,
