Take Action

Act Now to Protect These National Sites

Chuckwalla, nestled in Southern California, is a sanctuary for endangered species and a sacred site for Indigenous people.

The Great Bend of the Gila in Arizona holds invaluable rock art, geoglyphs, and cultural sites that span millennia.

Black Wall Street, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is a powerful testament to Black excellence, resilience, and entrepreneurialism, and serves as a reminder of the deep-seated racism that fueled the destruction of the Greenwood District and continues to plague our nation today.

These places remain unprotected. President Biden must act before his term ends to safeguard these critical areas. Join us today by sending a letter to President Biden urging him to protect Chuckwalla, the Great Bend of the Gila, and Black Wall Street as national monuments.

By taking action, you will receive important updates about our work and how you can help Trust for Public Land protect public land and parks for people.

RE: Designate these landscapes as national monuments

To

As someone who values the preservation of our country's natural and historical sites, I urge you to designate Chuckwalla in Southern California, the Great Bend of the Gila in Arizona, and Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as national monuments. Each place holds immense significance for our cultural and natural heritage.

Presidents have long used the Antiquities Act to protect vital landscapes and historic sites for future generations. Like the Grand Canyon and Bears Ears, these areas tell essential stories about our past and are home to irreplaceable natural landscapes and cultural resources.

Chuckwalla encompasses nearly 700,000 acres of desert habitat, rich with Indigenous history and critical for threatened and endangered species such as the desert tortoise.

The Great Bend of the Gila is a vast landscape containing geoglyphs, ancient cultural sites, and essential wildlife habitat.

Black Wall Street in Tulsa is a historic and powerful symbol of Black entrepreneurship and resilience, deserving recognition and protection through national monument status.

Your leadership in safeguarding these areas is essential. Please preserve these places for future generations by designating them as national monuments today.

Sincerely,
