Take Action

Avoid a government shutdown to protect communities and our environment!

Dysfunction in the House of Representatives has substantially delayed and deadlocked important legislation and federal funding. As a direct result, our nation yet again stands at the precipice of a government shutdown.

Send your message to your representative now: for the sake of our public lands and national parks—and the safety of their visitors—avoid a government shutdown.

By taking action, you will receive important updates about our work and how you can help Trust for Public Land protect public land and parks for people.

RE: Prevent a government shutdown

To

As a public lands advocate, I am writing to express my deep concern about the current situation, which has us barreling toward a government shutdown and the resulting devastating impact on our communities, national parks, and a clean and healthy environment. This situation demands immediate attention, and I urge you to take swift action to end the dysfunction and pass a clean Continuing Resolution today.

Government shutdowns have far-reaching consequences that affect us all. They delay essential services, furlough workers, and disrupt the lives of countless people. We've all witnessed how these shutdowns can close off access to America's national parks, monuments, and historic sites, jeopardizing their preservation and hurting the gateway communities and businesses that rely on them.

The damage caused by a government shutdown is particularly severe in historically underserved communities that rely on access to public lands and our national parks for economic stability. The possible government shutdown could halt critical efforts to connect more Americans to the outdoors, including suspending investments in urban tree canopies, neglecting to protect breathtaking landscapes, denying recreational opportunities, and putting important work on culturally significant sites and trail projects on hold.

Our nation cannot afford these disruptions or delays. I implore you to restore function to Congress, and pass a Continuing Resolution without extraneous policy riders and extreme funding cuts, before the current funding runs out. The well-being of our communities, the preservation of our natural treasures, and the urgency of our climate action efforts are at stake.

Sincerely,
