RE: Fully Fund and Protect Critical Conservation Priorities

To

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the House Interior Appropriations Bill, which includes deep funding cuts and policy riders that would significantly impact efforts to protect and conserve our national monuments and public lands.

I urge you to oppose amendments that undermine the Antiquities Act, a vital tool that has safeguarded some of our nation's most iconic historic places, cultural sites, and remarkable landscapes. Specifically, I am concerned about the provisions that will:

* Halt the protection and management of the Ancestral Footprints of Grand Canyon National Monument;
* Cut funding allocated for the management of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument;
* Prohibit the protection of crucial lands under the Antiquities Act, including Owyhee Canyonlands in southeastern Oregon and the expansion of Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument in California.

Presidents from both sides of the aisle have used the Antiquities Act to protect hundreds of millions of acres of America's most significant cultural and recreational landscapes. Many of the public lands that we know and love today, such as Grand Canyon and Arches National Parks, were first protected as national monuments. Without the foresight of past presidents, these places might not be the beautiful, conserved landscapes that they are today.

The potential loss of even one of these precious places would be deeply felt by current and future generations. I implore you to champion the protection of our country's most special places by opposing these concerning provisions and advocating for a bill that fully funds and protects critical conservation priorities.

Sincerely,
