Take Action

Protect the Great Bend of the Gila

Designating the Great Bend of the Gila as a national monument will protect more than 80,000 acres of land sacred to multiple Arizona-based tribes and guarantee that the ancient rock art and geoglyphs along the river, cliffs, and valley floor are protected from looting and vandalism.

Will you help us protect this extraordinary cultural and historic landscape by sending a message to President Biden now?

By taking action, you will receive important updates about our work and how you can help Trust for Public Land protect public land and parks for people.

RE: Protect the Great Bend of the Gila

Dear President Biden,

As an avid supporter of the outdoors and your constituent, I urge you to designate the Great Bend of the Gila as a national monument. Presidents from both sides of the aisle have used the Antiquities Act to protect hundreds of millions of acres of America's most significant cultural and recreational landscapes. Many of the public lands that we know and love today - such as Grand Canyon and Arches National Parks - were first protected as national monuments. Without the foresight of past presidents, these places might not be the beautiful, conserved landscapes that they are today.

Designating the Great Bend of the Gila as a national monument will protect more than 80,000 acres of land sacred to multiple Arizona-based tribes and guarantee that the ancient rock art and geoglyphs along the river, cliffs, and valley floor are protected from looting and vandalism.

As you work to protect 30 percent of America's lands and waters by 2030, I urge you to include the Great Bend of the Gila as a part of that promise. We look to you, as our president, to protect our country's most special places - and this incredible landscape of southwestern Arizona is no exception.

Sincerely,
