Take Action

ACTION ALERT: Keep uranium mining out of the Grand Canyon forever

The fate of the Grand Canyon is at stake.

In 2012, after extensive public support, the Department of Interior put in place a temporary ban on uranium mining near the Grand Canyon. Since then, the ban has protected about one million acres of public land surrounding the iconic Grand Canyon National Park.

But the ban is not permanent. Take action today and tell your Representative to permanently ban dangerous uranium mining in the Grand Canyon region before the temporary ban expires!

The Grand Canyon and its surroundings are a national treasure, attracting millions of visitors each year with dramatic views of expansive canyons, ponderosa pines, and the winding Colorado River. Uranium mining poses a grave threat to this critical water resource, as well as to the indigenous communities which call the canyon home, their sacred cultural sites, and the wildlife that relies on those waters in the arid habitat in and near the Grand Canyon.

We must act now to take a stand for this iconic national park, the irreplaceable indigenous sites, and its important contributions to the local tourism and recreation economy.

Tell your Representative to ban new uranium mines around the Grand Canyon National Park forever.

RE: Permanently ban uranium mining around the Grand Canyon

To

The Grand Canyon is one of our country's most iconic national parks, visited by more than five million people every year. The park is home to indigenous communities and irreplaceable cultural and historic sites, while its vast canyons and flowing Colorado River make it a perfect haven for wildlife and outdoor recreation. Allowing uranium mining in the Grand Canyon watershed could pollute critical waterways, destroy sacred sites, and damage wildlife habitat permanently.

In 2012, after extensive public support, the Department of Interior put in place a 20-year ban on uranium mining near the Grand Canyon which protected critical waterways, sacred sites, and wildlife habitat. But the ban is only temporary, and it is urgent that we take steps now to ensure this iconic American landscape is protected forever.

Therefore, I urge you - as my Representative - to permanently ban uranium mining in the Grand Canyon region today, so it can be preserved and enjoyed for generations to come.

Sincerely,
