President Biden is considering designating Colorado’s Camp Hale and a portion of the Continental Divide Trail as a national monument. If designated, Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument will protect the historic lands of Camp Hale, in addition to critical habitat, wildlife corridors, and scenic recreational areas along the Tenmile Range.

Presidents from both sides of the aisle have used the Antiquities Act to protect hundreds of millions of acres of America’s most significant cultural and historic landscapes. Many of the public lands that we know and love today—such as Grand Canyon and Arches National Parks—were first protected as national monuments. Without the foresight of past presidents, these places may not be the beautiful, conserved landscapes that they are today.

Protecting Camp Hale through a national monument designation will honor the history and legacy of Colorado’s 10th Mountain Division ski troops and the vast alpine terrain where they trained, including the Tenmile Range. Today, the range is loved by locals and visitors alike, who traverse the scenic landscapes to view the habitat for migratory songbirds, otters, bears, and lynx.

Please help ensure this scenic landscape can be conserved for generations to come—send your letter to President Biden today!

By taking action, you will receive important updates about our work and how you can help Trust for Public Land protect public land and parks for people.

RE: Designate Camp Hale-Continental Divide

To President Biden,

As an avid supporter of the outdoors, I urge you to designate Camp Hale-Continental Divide as a national monument. Presidents from both sides of the aisle have used the Antiquities Act to protect hundreds of millions of acres of America's most significant cultural and historic landscapes. Many of the public lands that we know and love today - such as Grand Canyon and Arches National Parks - were first protected as national monuments. Without the foresight of past presidents, these places may not be the beautiful, conserved landscapes that they are today.

Protecting Camp Hale through a national monument designation will honor the history and legacy of Colorado's 10th Mountain Division ski troops and the vast alpine terrain where they trained, including the Tenmile Range. It will also safeguard the vast array of wildlife that make the Tenmile Range their home, including migratory songbirds, otters, bears, and lynx.

As you work to protect thirty percent of America's lands and waters by 2030, I urge you to include Camp Hale-Continental Divide as a part of that promise. As president, we look to you to protect our country's most special places - and this scenic landscape is no exception.

Sincerely,
