Urge Congress to protect these precious landscapes

Next Tuesday is Trust for Public Land’s “Virtual Day on the Hill,” where advocates like you around the country will write to Congress and the Biden administration to protect precious lands such as Avi Kwa Ame as national monuments.

Here are the landscapes at risk:

  • Avi Kwa Ame, Nevada: Protect 380,000 acres of land sacred to multiple tribes and crucial to threatened wildlife, such as the elusive desert tortoise, from large-scale development.
  • Castner Range, Texas: Safeguard incredible views, future outdoor recreation opportunities, prehistoric artifacts, and rare and endangered wildlife for generations to come.
  • Berryessa Snow Mountain, California: Expand access to 3,925 acres of public land to preserve archeological sites and the health of forest land.

National monument landscapes are crucial to our physical, mental, and emotional health. Join us today and urge President Biden and your members of Congress to protect these culturally significant and biologically diverse landscapes now so we can keep these special places safe and accessible for generations to come.

By taking action, you will receive important updates about our work and how you can help Trust for Public Land protect public land and parks for people.

RE: Support the designation of new national monuments

To [Decision Maker],

As an avid supporter of the outdoors and your constituent, I urge you to designate Avi Kwa Ame and Castner Range as new national monuments and to expand Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument.

Stretching from the California-Nevada border to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the proposed Avi Kwa Ame National Monument contains some of the most culturally significant and biologically diverse lands in the Mojave Desert. Its natural springs, mountains, and canyons are home to threatened and endangered species, including the elusive desert tortoise, desert bighorn sheep, and the Gila monster. The land is also sacred to multiple tribes and needs to be protected from desecration and large-scale development so generations to come can appreciate its beauty and importance.

The proposed Castner Range National Monument contains lands of historical, cultural, and ecological value. Its peaks, arroyos, and canyons are home to rare and endangered species, as well as prehistoric rock art and cultural sites. The land should be protected in perpetuity from desecration and development so generations to come have the opportunity to experience this impactful natural area.

Expanding Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument will increase access to 3,925 acres of beautiful natural landscape in California. It will also preserve archeological sites, rare habitat areas, and the health of essential forestlands.

Our national monument landscapes are the pride of our nation. Therefore, I urge you, as my representative, to protect these special places now and for generations to come.

Sincerely,
