Take Action on Pres. Biden’s budget
Last month, President Biden released his administration’s proposed budget to Congress for 2023—which includes funding for parks and open space.
We are grateful to the Biden administration for supporting critical public lands and parks programs like the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and the Community Forest Program (CFP). However, these programs are so popular and oversubscribed that they do not have enough funding to meet the critical needs in communities all across the country.
While Congress is reviewing the president’s proposal and developing the Federal budget for 2023, we have a window of opportunity that can’t be missed. Encourage your legislators to build on the president’s budget recommendation—increase funding for high-priority conservation and park programs like the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the US Forest Service’s Community Forest Program today!
LWCF has been vital to the protection of more than 45,000 parks and green spaces across the country, but it can do so much more. An additional $450 million in funding will allow us to address the critical unmet need in historically underserved city neighborhoods and rural communities.
CFP protects forest lands that contribute to healthy, flourishing communities. Increasing funding for this integral program will help us create new, locally owned and managed community forests, while conserving millions of acres of private forest lands across the country. This will encourage sustainable forest management and provide public access, while protecting water quality and wildlife habitat.
Our public lands, parks, and forests benefit all Americans, including future generations. Urge Congress to protect our special green spaces across the country by sending your message today!
