Sign now to protect critical land in New Mexico
Just west of Albuquerque sits the L Bar project, a 53,000-acre expanse of private land bordered by national forest on one side and the Marquez State Wildlife Area on the other. The project is part of a landscape that is considered a sacred and culturally significant site by as many as 30 Native American tribes. Its rare ecosystem provides habitat for over 400 plant and animal species, including elk and the threatened Mexican spotted owl.
Despite the significance of the L Bar project, the land is at risk of private development. L Bar is currently privately owned, but with your help the L Bar project will be combined with the adjacent Marquez State Wildlife Area, making it the largest wildlife area in New Mexico and providing members of the Native American community with permanent access to this sacred land.
But protection is not possible without support from New Mexico’s elected leaders: Urge them to support public land protection today!
