Congress: Revitalize the Land and Water Conservation Fund

The Land and Water Conservation Fund has expired. Congress could have acted to protect even more parks, forests, beaches, and trails by reauthorizing the LWCF, but instead they cast it aside and allowed this essential program for public lands to expire completely.

We are facing an uphill battle against some members of Congress and their allies, who don’t see the value in the Land and Water Conservation Fund, or in our nation’s wild places and open spaces. But we need to keep the pressure on, and fight tooth and nail to get the LWCF reestablished, because if we don’t, the future of spectacular landscapes and parks will remain at risk.

Sign now to keep the pressure on Congress to permanently renew the Land and Water Conservation Fund so we can protect our public lands and ensure that everyone has access to the outdoors.

RE: Revitalize the Land and Water Conservation Fund

To U.S. Congress,

I am outraged that Congress did not reauthorize and fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) before it expired on September 30. The LWCF is our nation's best program for conserving public spaces-from the majestic landscapes of Yosemite and along the Appalachian Trail, to the small, neighborhood parks close to come.

It is thanks to the LWCF that over 45,000 neighborhood parks, beautiful landscapes, famous historic sites, and treasured cultural landmarks are protected so we can enjoy them for generations to come. Without this program, lands that protect our drinking water, provide wildlife habitat, and offer people the chance to connect with nature could be lost forever.

We owe it to ourselves and to future generations to preserve public lands. Therefore, I urge you-as my congressional representative-to do everything in your power to revitalize the LWCF by reauthorizing and fully funding the program immediately.
