Congress: Fight President Trump's executive proclamation

It’s official. President Trump signed away almost two million acres from Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments with a disastrous executive proclamation.

This attack amounts to the largest elimination of protected public lands in U.S. history, putting tens of thousands of archeological sites, Native American sacred sites, and recreational lands at risk.

We need you to act now: Urge Congress to overturn this executive proclamation.

The purpose of National Monument designations is to create permanent protections for America’s most special places. President Trump’s executive proclamation undermines that very concept, and will have MONUMENTAL consequences for our public lands. Archeological sites like Cedar Mesa will have a renewed risk of looting and desecration, the grand sandstone buttes of the Valley of the Gods could be at risk of reckless development, and the 100 million year old sandstone Wahweap Hoodoos could be irreversibly damaged.

Worse yet, the Trump Administration has already indicated that this assault on our public lands will not stop with Utah’s iconic landscapes. Eight other national monuments, including the desert oasis Gold Butte and enchanting Katahdin Woods and Waters, remain on the chopping block. Our national monuments are not safe, but with your help, we can beat back this attack by taking the fight head-on in Congress.

Take action right now to stand up to President Trump’s executive proclamation so Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante remain protected.

Now, please pass this message on to your friends.
It's important that as many people as possible know that we're at risk of losing these national treasures.

RE: Protect Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments

I am outraged that President Trump announced an executive proclamation to eliminate protections for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. These special places are home to tens of thousands of archeological sites, recreation areas, and striking landscapes that help define who we are as a nation. This executive proclamation will also undermine long-standing protections for all of our country's national monuments - protections that have safeguarded significant places like the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park for decades.

It is time Congress steps in. Americans spoke out during the national monument review and more than 2.8 million public comments were in support of protecting all 27 national monuments. Please listen to millions of Americans who love and use our lands by standing up to President Trump's executive proclamation. Presidents of both parties have used the Antiquities Act to protect some of our greatest landscapes, and this attack on the Antiquities Act should not stand.

I am firmly opposed to any effort to diminish protections for Bears Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante, or any other national monuments under the original review. These unique places benefit all Americans, including future generations. As my representative, I urge you to fight this executive proclamation, and recommend the boundaries and protections remain as they are today.

Thank you for your consideration.
