Take Action

Congress: Don’t Let the Land and Water Conservation Fund Expire

The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), is America’s most important program to conserve public lands and it’s at risk of disappearing.

Despite overwhelming bipartisan support for LWCF, the program is set to expire in September—and there’s been little movement in Congress to reauthorize or fully fund the program.

The program has protected more than two million acres of land and supported more than 45,000 state and local park projects. And, the LWCF doesn't cost taxpayers a thing! It's funded entirely by royalties from the offshore oil and gas industry. If the program expires, millions of dollars for public lands will be cut off.

This critical conservation program has protected iconic places such as Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain, and Mount Rainier National Parks. It has preserved places of historical and cultural significance, like the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, the Gettysburg National Military Park, and the Flight 93 National Memorial.

Saving the LWCF should be a top priority for Congress, but we need you to make your voice heard on the issue.

Send a message to Congress now, and urge them to protect LWCF from expiring.

Now, please pass this message on to your friends.
It's important that as many people as possible take action to stop the Land and Water Conservation Fund from disappearing.

Don't Let the Land and Water Conservation Fund Expire

To the U.S. Congress,

For more than 50 years, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has helped fund the protection and management of everything from national parks and forests to close-to-home recreational areas. This ensures every family has access to the outdoors and to places like the Tahoe National Forest, the Chattahoochee River and the Appalachian Trail.

Every time the LWCF has come up for renewal it has received bipartisan support, and with good reason. Protecting our shared public lands is not a partisan issue, it's an American one.

Reauthorizing and fully funding the LWCF and protecting our public spaces should be a top priority for Congress. Please permanently reauthorize and fully fund the LWCF before it expires on September 30 to ensure the future of America's public lands and iconic places.
