RE: Preserve the Great Bend of the Gila

To

As a dedicated advocate for the great outdoors and a constituent, I implore you to designate the Great Bend of the Gila as a national monument.

Historically, presidents from both sides of the aisle used the Antiquities Act to safeguard hundreds of millions of acres of America's most treasured cultural and recreational landscapes. Iconic public lands such as the Grand Canyon and Arches National Parks began their journeys to protection as national monuments. Without the visionary actions of past presidents, these magnificent sites might not have been preserved for future generations.

Designating the Great Bend of the Gila will protect over 80,000 acres that hold deep significance to several Arizona-based tribes. The ancient rock art and geoglyphs scattered across the river, cliffs, and valley floor are irreplaceable cultural treasures. Unfortunately, these areas are vulnerable to looting and vandalism. Designating this region as a national monument would ensure its preservation and protection.

As you work to achieve the goals of the America the Beautiful Initiative, I urge you to include the Great Bend of the Gila in that effort. Your leadership is vital in safeguarding our nation's most precious landscapes, and this unique area of southwestern Arizona deserves that protection.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.

Sincerely,
